In 1977, Dr. Roger Pecina graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry with the idea that top quality dental care accessible to everyone, and that it shouldn't seem like a chore to visit the dentist. Today, his concept to provide a patient experience that is "different and better" than the traditional image of the family dental practice has been realized in Afdent.

Dr. Pecina opened his first practice as Affiliated Family Dentists on Ironwood Drive in Mishawaka (where today stands a Martin's Supermarket.) As it expanded, the location moved to Grape Road, where many people remember the long run the practice enjoyed. There, the name officially changed to Afdent.

All the while, the reputation of Afdent's "whole new feeling" grew, and the patient base expanded. In fact, Afdent has seen more new patients than any other Michiana dental practice, earning the title "Michiana's Dentists."

In 2001, Afdent completed construction on the facility carefully designed by Dr. Pecina himself. The state-of-the-art Afdent Center for Family Dentistry sits on a campus-like setting on Douglas Road in Mishawaka.

The success Afdent and Dr. Pecina have achieved over the years is a direct result of treating patients the way they want to be treated - like real people, with real concerns, and a genuine need for quality care. Afdent's six doctors and large staff are all in place to provide a dental experience that's different and better for you.
